The RURAL FOCUS Service helps rural and farming businesses across the South West of England. The team of specialist rural advisers are dedicated to improving the profitability and competitiveness of businesses by providing access to the impartial, independent and practical advice they need to succeed. RURAL FOCUS is the local point of contact for information, support and funding through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).

The Improving Your Resource Efficiency Service offers 12 hours of free and impartial specialist environmental support to eligible businesses based in Devon and Somerset. A full site assessment of a business site, processes and any renewables, together with an analysis of utility bills can be carried out resulting in a detailed report recommending key actions. These actions will help to identify and quantify the ways and means to best reduce energy costs. Over 300 businesses have already benefited from this service.

UK Trade and Investment (Devon, Cornwall and Somerset) is the government department that helps UK based companies succeed in the global economy. The service is delivered through International Trade Teams consisting of Advisers supported by UK based specialists in 96 overseas markets. Competitiveness aims to support a step change in the international performance of companies and to attract international investment. Export Cornwall – UKTI Convergence Service makes it easier for eligible businesses in Cornwall to access the information, skills and advice they need to make the most of the export opportunity. They help businesses embrace new opportunities as well as help them deal with any challenges they encounter as their build their business overseas. The advisory team includes business people from across Cornwall, all of which are successfully trading overseas.

Social Enterprise Focus – Winning Contracts for Cornwall & Isles of Scilly offers support from specialist advisers to help eligible social enterprises improve their readiness to bid for new contracts, including advice and guidance on how to submit successful bids. The project also offers specialist events and networking opportunities to enable social enterprises to work in collaboration, meet potential buyers and identify new contracts.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are highly prestigious awards for outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of Innovation, International Trade and Sustainable Development. Peninsula Enterprise provides technical assessment of applications for four Award categories. We generate a shortlist of the best applications for each Award which then goes before the judging panel. We give feedback to every applicant and particularly for those organisations that have missed out on an Award but have demonstrated promise.

Networking for Innovation (iNets) supports businesses in turning ideas into products and services by providing access to specialist information and research, linking businesses to new markets and through sharing knowledge and expertise. There are five established iNets supporting key business sectors in the SW: Aerospace & Advanced Engineering, BioMedical, Creative Industries, Environmental Technologies and Microelectronics. iNets South West are supported by £13 million of funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
